Native to Western Asia and southern Mediterranean countries, the oil from a tiny black seed, or Nigella sativa has been used for thousands of years for beauty and health. Black seed goes by many names: Black Cumin, Fennel Flower, Nutmeg Flower, Roman Coriander and Love-in-a-Mist.

Records show Greek physicians, Hippocrates included, prescribed Nigella sativa for their patients. Black seed was even discovered in the Egyptian Pharaoh King Tut’s tomb!

So what makes black seed oil so potentially valuable? Even though it contains a multitude of active compounds including alkaloids, saponins, sterols, B vitamins, minerals and omega-3 and omega-6 fats, researchers believe its major actions come from a combination of three key naturally occurring phytochemicals: thymoquinone, thymohydroquinone and thymol.

Black seed oil has been shown in studies to support your well-being from head-to-toe, including your metabolic health, weight management, blood lipid levels, cell health, liver health, respiratory health, digestive health, brain health, mood, as well as your skin, hair, fertility, hormonal and reproductive organ health.*

You have many different black seed oils to choose from in the market, but their quality can vary widely. Many may be exposed to damaging high heat, processed with hexane or other harsh chemicals, or actually diluted with other oils. Some even carry claims of higher thymoquinone levels that, when tested, don’t exist.

We source our Organic Black Seed Oil from Egypt where Nigella sativa was first used and studied.
